Journal, Pg. 105, January, 2002:
"Clancy
first found success as one of the members of the famous Irish folk group
The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. Leaders in introducing traditional
Irish music to the United States, they started out performing at parties,
then graduated to Greenwich Village clubs during the American folk revival
of the late 1950s and early 1960s. In this delightful memoir, somewhat
akin to Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes, Clancy chronicles his humble
beginnings in tiny Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland, and his rise to fame as
a musician and actor under the tutelage of American heiress and folk
enthusiast Diane Guggenheim.
No
other books on the Clancy Brothers are available, so this volume will
certainly appeal to fans. Clancy’s rich life and Irish storytelling
gift make this so enjoyable that all public libraries would do well
to consider buying."
