To depart from what I like to think of, my 12 step rant, I am amazed that I took so long to find GOOGLE! Not only is it honeycombed with Clancy/Makem selections, recently I rediscovered a treasure trove of Dubliner selections, the significant among them was Luke Kelly performing "Raglan Road". The true wonder was that the song was started by it's author, Paddy (Flash) Kavanaugh. That blew my mind! And further, SO many selections! I will remain speechless.

Google is where I found this site, John. I had gone into Amazon for something, and a CBTM CD was offered on their home page. Don't know why. I hadn't asked for it. But that prompted me to Google the lads for recent info, and there was Liam's messageboard. I only wish I had found it sooner. I got my password December 5, 2009.
But now that I am a Clancy fanatic, I Google stuff all the time. Like when I want to know what a Croppy Boy is, or a Claddagh. I don't know what we did before Google. It's wizardry. Put in a word and two seconds later a whole page appears on the subject. And I have dial-up.
All the best,

Jane, Not only is it rich with selections like "Raglan Road" and "Bringing Home the Oil", it cost my heart a few beats when saw a few minutes of Liam's LAST interview. So much Fluid had acculated in hid body and every breath was so labored I thought some one was playing a truly sick joke on any viewer that chose to watch and listen to it- but, no, this was the tragic here and now! I do hope that flights of angels ushered him into the next life and had a couple of fifths of Powers, Jameson's or Bushmill's to shorten the journey and bring him up to speed with Paddy, Tom, and Bobby! Eternal rest grant unto Liam, oh Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon the stage of the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem where they are still probably singing the "holy Ground"!

John,
I wish I hadn't seen Liam's last interview. It was some time before I could get that image from my mind. But now when I think of the Clancys, the picture I get is the early 60's. I just got "Wrap the Green Flag" CD with a wonderful picture of them from that era. What a joy they are! I play their music every single day, and when I'm not listening to it, the music is in my head. |

My heart sank too when I saw what he looked like in that interview, and in publicity for the Yellow Bittern screenings in September. I knew he had been sick since at least that previous June but I was shocked to see how it had affected his appearance. For some reason I was under the impression he had only recently been diagnosed...had no idea it was near the end.
Anyway, about google, it was Liam of all people who turned me on to google! He once said, "There's more information about me than even I know!" He was correct! Even better than google itself is the recent addition, Google News Archive. TONS of articles on everything, including the guys of course, going all the way back to the 1950s.
