Had a feeling there might be a few singers on here
As ye all hopefully know, there's a wee festival next weekend http://www.clancybrothersfestival.org/
There are formal gigs, pub gigs, and a singing competition, the Eoghan Power Memorial Trophy Thursday night, June 10th, from 8:30pm.
The Chancy Brothers will be the house band for that competition (as well as being pretty much inseparable from Wall's pub for the whole weekend).
Don't be shy, get down to Carrick on Suir in Tipperary, enter a song for the competition, be in with a chance of winning a few quid! And if you can't make it Thursday night, you won't get off the hook that easily, get a song in at one of the many late night sessions!
Hopefully it'll be a fitting festival to honour the lads, I can;t wait!

We're nearly here!
The Chancy Brothers look forward to perspiring heavily in pursuit of entertaining a crowd!
Here's the result of my last year's half time effort at Wall's pub Friday night

Now, where do I start?? Friday night was great even if my poor head disagreed with me the next morning,,, have some videos of it and will get them to the lads to post up somewhere, don't ask this luddite to even try!!
We decided to go to the concert on Saturday and were not disappointed. There seemed to be Clancy's coming out of all angles that night, and each one entertained and sang with no faults on my side. Finbarr gave us a lovely version of my favourite The Dutchman, poor man was accosted by me at the end of the evening... but he was so much like Liam in looks and mannerisms that it is uncanny... Well done Finbarr, and the version of the Band Played Waltzing Matilda by Liams relative Liam Butler was one of the best I have ever heard, and he sung it with such warmth and feeling it brought tears to many eyes that night..
I was speaking to Robbie very briefly on Sunday morning outside the hotel and passed on my praise to everyone who took part, so if you do ever read this page Robbie, thanks for being so friendly to us then, and thanks to every one in Carrick, you are a really friendly lot and gave us a great welcome.
I had to leave before the Fairgreen day got into swing, so I hope it went well, and Pat... the dead gerbil is lovely, the lads presented me with it on Friday night, no photo alas, but you never know what might surface on that camera of mine....

Mission accomplished then...finally.
Just so everyone knows, I had found a stash of white corduroy baker boy caps at a local flea market. I bought a couple extra and sent a package to Las Vegas, to arrive the day before St. Pat's. I was hoping Pádraig would be able to wear his when the Chancys played their Vegas gig. Alas, Mandalay Bay lost the package and Pádraig didn't get it until weeks later, which is why we started the dead hamsters/gerbils joke. (If there had been live animals in the package they would have been long dead before Pádraig got the package which had been OVERNIGHTED to him just so that wouldn't happen.)
Well, Pádraig finally got the package containing a cap for him and one for Ann, who had just prior had to put her previous cap to rest. It took until now, at the festival, for Ann and Pádraig to hook up so he could give it to her. Now Ann and Pádraig are both sporting white "Liam Clancy" caps which match the one sitting behind me right now, and all is right with the world...except for those POOR hamsters!
All the best...
Pat

Thanks everyone for the comments, you are all too kind.
The Tipperary Photos page isn't currently working but we luckily have a plethora of photos. Will get them to myspace eventually.
Pat, thanks so much for the hat, the only photo I have handy of me wearing it is at ttp://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs334.snc3/29291_752864231 994_11324154_43256953_6520729_n.jpg While playing an outdoor session to 5 friends of mine on campus at the University of Delaware back in April!

VERY cool! You're missing an h off the "http" at the front of the URL, btw.
Remember, Liam -always- wore his cap like a beret, with it pulled down on the right side. Check every photo you can find with him in one of his baker boy caps, and it's always the same. the left side goes almost straight up and the right side is flopped over and hanging slightly down.
You notice the strangest things when you do research.
All the best...
Pat
EDIT: In solidarity with my fellow cap-wearer, I'm posting a new photo of me wearing my matching white baker boy cap. Ann, you're next!

Just wondering if anyone knew of any good music sessions happening this weekend or over the next few weeks. I have an Australian visitor and would like to take him to something like this. Thanks, Gerry. |

Gerry,
I'll be playing a few tunes in Devitts on Camden Street Thursday night in the street level bar there. It's very relaxed and unamplified so usually good fun. Myself and one of the girls usually throw a few songs into the mix plus any requests. I don't know where to reccomend for Fridays and Saturdays, although Devitts have sessions those nights, being in the upstairs bar they can be a bit under populated until midnight or so though. The Cobblestone in Smithfield certainly never disappoints, I'd say it's probably a much better session than ours on Thursday nights even though naturally I'd recommend our session for its unique character and spontaneity
No Chancy Brothers activities this weekend unfortunately

Golly, I wish I could have been there! Maybe next year? Does the festival usually happen in mid-June?
I would really like to spend part of each year in Ireland, especially around Galway (I last visited Ireland in March-April 2006, on my own homemade 30-day clockwise tour around both South and North); and Galway City particularly impressed me. The no-traffic center of the city was especially cool, with all the pubs, buskers, cafes and whatnot. It would be great if I could rent/own a flat in that vicinity, and spend part of the summer/fall there each year.
Anyway, I really would like to attend the Clancy Brothers Festival *one of these days*, if only the travel funds would be present and accounted for...
